The New Chapter for Island Treasures: Stories of Healing, Hope, and Life After Caregiving

The Island Treasures Podcast has entered a powerful new chapter. Since rebranding on October 23rd, the podcast has been steadily releasing episodes that shine a light on a topic too often overlooked: life after caregiving. This season offers a space for honesty, healing, and the kind of conversations that resonate long after the episode ends.
Powerful Voices in the New Season
Our first post‑rebrand episode, Life After Caregiving: Finding Your Footing, set the tone beautifully. From there, the momentum only grew. Licia Thompson‑Young joined us for Grief, Grit, and Growth: A Caregiver’s Guide to Healing and Renewal, offering wisdom shaped by lived experience. Christina Keys followed with Caregiver Recovery: Redefining Normal and Moving Forward, an honest exploration of how caregiving transforms us — and what it takes to rediscover identity, stability, and healing once the caregiving chapter ends.
And as of today, our newest episode features Carol Steinberg in Family is Everything: Helping Children Understand Alzheimer’s, and Life After Caregiving. Her insights add yet another layer to this rich tapestry of stories offering a resource for families with a loved one living with Alzheimer’s disease — and there’s more on the way.

Raw, Real Conversations That Resonate
These conversations are not just meaningful; they’re raw, real, and deeply human. Each guest brings a truth that deserves to be heard. The insights have been so impactful that I’ve begun capturing key moments in short video clips, now available on the website’s video page for anyone who needs a quick dose of encouragement or clarity.
What Life After Caregiving Really Looks Like
One theme has surfaced again and again: life after caregiving is, at its core, a journey of recovery. Not just from physical exhaustion, but from what Christina so perfectly described as being “soul tired” — the kind of fatigue no nap can fix. Yet these episodes don’t just speak to former caregivers. They offer comfort and guidance to those still in the thick of it, navigating the daily realities of caregiving with courage and resilience.

A Growing Library for Caregivers Everywhere
I continue to hear from caregivers who are actively walking their caregiving paths, and I’m grateful to have a growing library of episodes to share with them. Sometimes I feel like a librarian, pointing someone toward the exact story or voice that speaks to what they’re experiencing right now. What a gift to be able to offer that — freely, and with love. All it takes is a little time to listen.
Paying It Forward
What brings me the most joy is seeing caregivers reach the point where they’re ready to ask for help, accept support, and explore resources. And for those who have transitioned out of 24/7 caregiving, it’s inspiring to watch them pay it forward — offering wisdom, compassion, and solidarity to others who are just beginning their journey.
An Invitation to Listen and Share
If these conversations resonate with you — or if you know someone who could use a little encouragement on their caregiving journey — I invite you to explore not only the latest episodes but also our library of caregiver stories, insights, and hard‑won wisdom, that span over the past six years, and share them with someone who needs them.
Looking Ahead: Island Treasures Still to Come
Future episodes highlighting parts of Vancouver Island are still on deck. For now, however, the treasures at the heart of Island Treasures are the stories, the wisdom, and the resilience of caregivers – shared to offer insight, encouragement, and support to anyone finding their way through and beyond caregiving.
